Tuesday marks the official first day of summer. Time to pull the shorts out from the back of the closet and dust off the sandals. Rum is a liquor distilled from sugarcane. While pure sugarcane juice or syrup can be used the vast majority is actually produced from molasses – a by-product of the sugar making process. No other spirit can claim to have as many different styles as rum, with versions ranging from white to golden to dark, as well as flavoured and spiced. Open That Bottle Night was first created in the year 2000 by two Wall Street Journal columnists. “OTBN”, as it has come to be known, is celebrated on the last Saturday in February. This traditionally dreary time of year was deemed the perfect time to pop that special bottle of wine or spirits that you’ve been holding, and share with friends and family! On Saturday Feb. 26th, 2022 we encourage you to reconnect with someone you haven’t seen in a while and pop that wine, Champagne or special spirit that you’ve been saving.
