Wow – so I have a new favourite Baileys! What appeared to be a limited edition a year ago, when it was first released, has finally made its way to Newfoundland and Labrador. Baileys, in partnership with Washington DC based Georgetown bakery, has given us the most aromatic and flavourful liqueur that I have ever tasted. As advertised, this elixir smells and tastes like freshly baked cupcakes, or more specifically Georgetown’s best-selling cupcake – Red Velvet. Think of all the buttery, creamy dairy goodness that goes into such baked goods and then add Red Velvet’s cocoa notes, and you get what another taster called “liquid chocolate cake”. I will be consuming my Red Velvet with my coffee this Christmas season, but other great ideas include using it as a component in cocktails (i.e. martinis), in hot chocolates or as an ingredient in baked goods.
While I will repeat that this is my current go-to Baileys product I will let you know to stay tuned. This is one to savour, as who doesn’t like cupcakes?!
Ps. It’s also worth noting that this liqueur picked up Double Gold at the 2020 San Francisco Spirits Competition – the industry’s highest honor!
