Canada’s wine industry is a vibrant tapestry of flavours, climates, and traditions, reflecting our countries unique terroir and innovative spirit. With a history dating back to the 19th century, Canadian wines have gained international recognition for their quality and character, particularly in recent years. Canada’s primary wine-producing regions are in British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia. Each province offers distinct characteristics shaped by local climate and soil.

Known for its stunning Okanagan Valley, British Columbia produces a wide range of varietals, from crisp whites like Riesling and Chardonnay to bold reds such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. Some of the great new selections available in our stores from British Columbia include Noble Ridge Reserve Pinot Grigio, Mission Hill Reserve Pinot Gris and Sidney Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Niagara Peninsula in Ontario is renowned for its icewines, made from grapes harvested and pressed while still frozen, creating a luxurious, sweet flavor. Ontario vineyards also excel in producing world-class Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc, such as Tawse Redstone Chardonnay and Cave Springs Niagara Cabernet Franc.

Both Quebec and Nova Scotia are emerging as vibrant players, focusing on cool-climate varietals and sparkling wines, with Nova Scotia gaining acclaim for its Tidal Bay appellation. In addition to some of the Tidal Bay selections on our shelves, we recommend trying Lightfoot & Wolfville Flora which is made from a blend of grape varieties that thrive in Nova Scotia’s ocean-influenced terroir and cool climate.

Canadian winemakers are increasingly embracing sustainable practices, experimenting with organic and biodynamic methods. This forward-thinking approach not only reflects environmental stewardship but also enhances the depth and authenticity of the wines. A great organic wine selection that is new to our shelves is the Hidden Bench Estate Series Pinot Noir from Ontario.

Whether you’re a fan of rich reds, crisp whites, or decadent dessert wines, Canadian wineries offer a treasure trove of great wines. From boutique vineyards to large-scale producers, there’s something to suit every palate and occasion.
