Expert Picks

Andrew Facey

This New Year’s Eve say goodbye to 2020 with a glass of sparkling wine! Whether you‘re a lover of Champagne, prosecco or bubbly rose we have highlighted our favourite sparkling wines for you to enjoy this holiday season.

Veuve Clicquot Brut Champagne

Its brilliant yellow label reflects the Champagne’s bright personality and exceptional winemaking credentials. Veuve Clicquot Brut Champagne is an elegant and perfectly balanced wine that is sure to impress even the most discerning guests.

Cuvee Catharine Brut

This sparkling wine is a dead ringer for Champagne. Similar to Champagne, this wine is made using the traditional method and the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape, producing a beautiful and affordable alternative to Champagne. While this wine makes the ideal aperitif it is also a perfect complement to many dishes, especially deep-fried cod bites, smoked salmon or raw oysters on the half shell.

Benjamin Bridge NV Brut

This dry sparkling wine is also made using the traditional method and using the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, while at the same time striving for low-intervention winemaking practices. While this makes another perfect aperitif (a quality all dry sparkling wines possess), I will be enjoying this lovely sparkler with friends and fun foods this holiday season, especially popcorn and potato chips – two ideal pairings for such amazing mouth cleansing wines.

Freixenet Italian Rose

Freixenet (pronounced “fresh-eh-net”) Italian Rose is not just beautiful to look at, the wine features crisp acidity with wonderful flavours of apple, raspberries, cherries and strawberries.

LaMarca Prosecco

A classic prosecco that delivers a great wine at an affordable price. With fresh citrus flavours and crisp acidity, this bubbly is the perfect accompaniment too any appetizer you’re serving your guests. Available in 187ml or 750ml format.

Professional tip on how to best open a sparkling wine:
grasp the cork in one hand and rotate the bottle with the other until the cork, gently, and quietly, slides out.
