We certainly like our rum in Newfoundland and Labrador! Rum is tough to define as there is no global standard but rather many grades and variations used to describe this sugarcane based liquor depending on the location where it is produced. Wines for Thanksgiving Dinner

A traditional turkey dinner has many things going on - with a wide variety of aromas, flavours and textures. The good news is that this means that there are many different, excellent wines that can be paired with such a feast. In a pinch, a good rule of thumb to follow is…“fruity reds and off-dry whites are the best wine pairings for turkey.” We recommend serving your guests two half glasses of wine with this year’s Thanksgiving dinner – red, white, rose and/or sparkling. It will stimulate conversation and we guarantee that some people will find new favourites!

International Cabernet Sauvignon Day

Cabernet Sauvignon is the most planted and widely recognized Vitis Vinifera grape variety in the world. The grapes have thick skins which usually provide the end products with deep(er) colour, ample black fruits (i.e. black berry, black currants, black cherry, etc.) and a high amount of mouth-drying tannins. Thursday September 2nd, 2021 is International Cabernet Sauvignon Day (#CabernetDay; #CabernetSauvignonDay). Refreshing White Wines

Refreshing white wines are those that are usually light(er) in body and low(er) in alcohol. They are rarely, if ever, oaked and display acidic qualities often described as crisp or juicy. The great news is that these wines often offer great value as they are rarely complex or age-worthy. In addition to being perfect aperitifs they also go great with the colder, lighter dishes that people prefer during the warmer, summer months.

NLC reminds public of mandatory mask protocol

NLC wishes to reiterate that in the interest of the health and safety of customers and staff, the wearing of non-medical masks is mandatory at Liquor Stores while shopping.

If customers are unable to wear a mask due to medical exemption, we encourage them to order online at nlliquor.com and identify an individual who may pick up their order. If this is not possible, customers with a mask exemption may remain at the checkout, where they will receive assistance. To limit their interactions with others, an NLC Associate will assist by picking up their order and proceeding to the cash lane, where the customer may pay.

Given the restrictions in place due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, NLC continues to take measures to assist in controlling the spread of the virus. These measures are in line with the requirements set forth by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, and are in the best interest of the health of all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. Premium Large Format Wines

While glass has been the preferred choice for wine storage and transportation for hundreds of years, it has only been since the early 1970s that the size of a wine bottle has been standardized at 750 ml. Any wine bottle that contains more than 750 ml may be considered large format.

It’s Beaujolais Nouveau time!

Beaujolais Nouveau is a red (or rose) wine that is known to be light, fresh and fruity! It is a simple wine that the producers hope you will not take too seriously, but rather enjoyably quaff from its release date on the third Thursday in November (this set date is strictly enforced around the world – with exceptions for no one!), right up until almost the following year’s release date. In 2020 the third Thursday in November falls on the 19th!
